Content: I must agree with the other reviewer that this book offers no additional eye-opening facts in respect to owning a Burmese cat... The history section is specific to the breed (but as a new or existing Burmese owner, you'd probably already know this prior to getting one!) & there is one blurb regarding the Burmese characteristic to yowl when they require attention. Beyond that this book could really be for any other cat out there (feed your cat, give it water, groom it,...). It didn't even specify normal size/weight ranges for the breed and what quantities of food to give them as a guideline. So, in my opinion, useless to a new Burmese owner. Also, I was a bit disappointed that all of the photos are only of Sable & Chocolate Burmese (they are all gorgeous, but a few photos of Blues or Lilacs would be appreciated). All in all this book was disappointing.

Content: I recommend that anyone considering being owned by an Abyssinian read this book (the info is enlightening for already owned people as well). It covers in easily understood language everything one should know about Abyssinian Cats and how to care for them. It is simply enough written to be understood by children though not boring to adults. It could be used as a teaching tool for children in the home where kitty will live. The author starts at the beginning: How to buy the cat, acclimation, caring for it "Forever After," etc. She discusses controversial issues such as declawing (I'm personally opposed), grooming, showing, etc. The general care information would apply to most cats. But Abyssinians are very intelligent, loyal, inquisitive and active. If you want a cat that will NOT sit on the refrigerator, then perhaps this book would give the reader some understanding of the personality of the Abyssinian and guide the propsective cat owner toward making a good decision about whether or not to select this particular breed or another, less active, breed. Plenty of good photos.

List Price: $12.95 Amazon Price: $6.99 Average Customer Rating: (3 reviews) Availability: Usually ships in 24 hours Customer Reviews: Summary: Good, but lacking in grooming and body language Content: Based on other's recommendation prior to mine, I was looking forward to this as a definitive Miniature Schnauzer guide, but was somewhat disappointed in its lack of depth on certain subjects. Not to say this is a bad book or has irrelevant information, but for new dog owners it has both its pros and cons. As a plus, the explanation of the breed and characteristics is thorough, as well as picking a puppy and what to expect. This takes up the first 1/3rd of the book. I found the grooming section to be great in some areas, but not so informative in others. There is very little information about cleaning ears (the proper and safe way) and why it's important (ear mites, bacterial odor, discharge, infection)....the best it says is pluck hairs and clean with rubbing alcohol in only two sentences. There should be much more on ear treatment. There is a section devoted to oral care which is good. This book more so concentrates on brushing the coat, baths, and clippering. I would have also like to have seen more on body language as new owners may not always know what their dog is trying to communicate to them. This includes if the puppy or mature dog is not feeling well and what 'subtle' signs to look for. There is a section describing ailments, parasites, and diseases...but not so much information on how to treat, other than: "See your vet." Duh!! The only training really covered in this book is "house-breaking, which while important is one facet of a puppy/human relationship. I would have liked to see expanded discussion on other basics such as: Sit, Stay, barking, etc... While I do recommend this book, it is a very high level look at the breed, but lacking in some detailed information on important day to day concerns of new dog owners.

The only peeve I have with this book is the extreamily small print..my eyes are still burning! I'd recommend picking up a magnifying glass if you buy this book :) On the positive side, there is a lot of info packed into an 80 page book! Happy Reading.
